Willingness-to-pay for reduced carbon footprint and other sustainability concerns relating to pork production - A comparison of consumers in China, Denmark, Germany and the UK

Sigrid Denver, Tove Christensen, Thomas Bøker Lund, Jakob Vesterlund Olsen, Peter Sandøe

Published in 2023

Scientific article comparing the willingness to pay higher prices for more sustainable pork among consumers in Shanghai and 3 European countries. In Western countries, animal welfare is the main reason for paying more, while in China it is food safety. In all countries, reducing climate impact was one of the least-cited reasons for paying more.

Impacts of heat stress on global cattle production during the 21st century: a modelling study

Philip Thornton, Gerald Nelson, Dianne Mayberry, Mario Herrero

Published in 2022

Scientific article using modelling to assess production losses due to heat stress in two different greenhouse gas emission scenarios. Depending on emission levels, economic losses vary between 9.8% and 3 to 7% of the value of beef and milk production worldwide in 2005. These results underline the importance of putting adaptation measures place in to combat heat stress if we are to ensure global food security.

Impact of palmiped farm density on the resilience of the poultry sector to highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8 in France

Billy Bauzile, Benoit Durand, Sébastien Lambert, Séverine Rautureau, Lisa Fourtune, Claire Guinat, Alessio Andronico, Simon Cauchemez, Mathilde C. Paul, Timothée Vergne

Published in 2023

Scientific article on the development of a model of the 2016-2017 avian influenza epidemic to show that even a slight reduction in the density of palmiped farms in the most densely populated areas would have considerably reduced the number of poultry farms affected. However, this measure would not have been sufficient to completely prevent the spread of the virus.
