Summary: The Casdar BeBoP Project aims to develop simplified and innovative protocols for the assessment of the welfare of bull calves in feedlots. The project is intended help the sector to establish a system of checks for the welfare of animals reared for meat production. It will develop realistic measures that match the sector's chosen welfare indicators for young male bovines for fattening.

BeBoP has two operational aims:

  • to develop, using artificial intelligence techniques, a predictive model and a system to analyse the behaviour of young bovines using continuous webcam images.
  • to develop and validate simplified measurement protocols for the welfare evaluation indicators (body condition, health status, Human-animal relationshipsshipsship) for young bovines, that can be used routinely and without risk to the observer.
