Preview: Since 2017, the Livestock and Meat sector has been fully committed to a Social Pact to meet ISO 26000 and in 2021 was again awarded a CRS level three out of four by AFNOR. In this context, INTERBEV, in collaboration with the CNIEL and the Confédération Nationale de l'Élevage, has since 2018 been using the Boviwell tool to assess the welfare of cattle on farms, and intends to include it in the specifications for Label Rouge beef to guarantee a high level of animal welfare on farms in the scheme. On the occasion of the 58th French Salon International de l'Agriculture, the beef and dairy industries are launching a new digital application for BoviWell. This application will facilitate Boviwell's roll-out in these two sectors.
Available for computers, tablets and smartphones, and also accessible offline, this new application tool will make it easier for livestock workers to implement the diagnostic process across the country.
The application, built for and with technicians, will facilitate the deployment of BoviWell throughout France. It will also make it possible to build a national database, which will collect data in secure form from all assessments. This will provide an overall picture of the level of welfare in cattle on French farms. The application will provide a genuine measurement tool for animal welfare, based on a solid scientific approach that has been tested in the field, and will also make it possible to monitor the situation and decide on how the sector should respond as a whole to any weaknesses that may identified, guided by the inter-professional organisations. This tool offers a complementary resource to meet the challenge of value creation in the sector and of ensuring fair remuneration for French cattle farmers.
