Preview: The purpose of the EPP (Elevage Porc Pilote) project is to set up a pilot pig farm using alternative farming practices that focus on life-long animal welfare. The farm at Le Gouessant has adopted this approach and has requested methodological and scientific support from IFIP for its on-farm trials. The trials aim to characterise the new housing design through four designated areas of study: 1 - Technical: evaluation of the technical feasibility of such a farming model; 2 - Economic: evaluation of the associated economic model and profitability criteria, and evaluation of the model's sensitivity to the diversity of technical and economic environmental conditions; 3 - Social: evaluation of the impact on the work and quality of life of the farmer and paid employee(s) (organisation of tasks, working hours, arduousness, perceived quality of the working environment, etc.); 4 - Societal: characterisation and evaluation of public perceptions of a farm of this type.
