The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty,
Having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No. 1099/2009 of 24 September 2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing;
Having regard to the French Rural and Maritime Fishing Code, in particular Article R. 214-17,
hereby decrees:
Article 1 In application of part II of Article R. 214-17 of the Rural and Maritime Fishing Code, the killing of chicks destined for use in animal feed from Gallus gallus species bred for the production of eggs for consumption, may only be carried out by gassing, under the conditions provided for in Annexe I of Council Regulation (EC) No. 1099/2009 of 24 September 2009 on the protection of animals at the time of killing.
Article 2 The only chicks to which the practice described in Article 1 of the present decree applies are from strains where the sex of the embryo cannot be determined by a method based on differences in feather colour.
Article 3 The present order will be published in the Journal Officiel de la République Française.
