The 5 FREEDOMS as defined by the Animal Welfare Committee. The following 5 principles must be satisfied simultaneously: freedom from hunger and thirst, freedom from discomfort, freedom from fear and anxiety, freedom from injury and disease, freedom to express the natural behaviours of the species
WELFARE
The positive mental and physical state related to the satisfaction of its physiological and behavioral needs and expectations. This state varies according to the animal's perception of the situation.
This is an animal-centered approach.
