Summary: Zupan and his colleagues [from the Department of Animal Science at the University of Ljubjana, Slovenia] monitored behavioural stress indicators in eight horses in an experiment to test their reactions to regular and irregular morning feeding habits (sometimes an hour too early, sometimes an hour too late). They confirmed that the horses experienced significant stress when their rations were fed late, leading most of them to "act out" behaviours such as neighing, kicking their handlers or kicking the stall door.
