Preview: The "Agricultural, Food and Forestry Transition" component of the recovery plan has 3 objectives: to strengthen food sovereignty; to accelerate the agro-ecological transition that will give all French people access to healthy, sustainable and local food; and to adapt agriculture and forestry to climate change. 1.2 billion euros are accordingly specifically allocated to the agricultural and agri-food sectors, to which can be added the recovery plan's cross-cutting measures that will benefit farmers and the agri-food industries, particularly those supported by the French Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Recovery and the Ministry for Labour, Employment and Social Inclusion. Producers in France also have the opportunity to rise to the high demands of French consumers for safe and healthy food that takes account of animal welfare. A plan to modernise abattoirs and livestock farms addresses these challenges by strengthening their competitiveness, ensuring respect for animal welfare while investing in biosecurity to reduce exposure to the health crises of tomorrow. But the issue of animal welfare also involves providing support for the care of abandoned pets or animals at the end of their lives, and France sadly holds the record for the number of abandoned animals. A plan for the care of abandoned and end-of-life animals will support the voluntary sector and shelters, also facilitating access to veterinary care. Together, these measures for the modernisation of abattoirs, for biosecurity in animal husbandry, for free-range farming and animal welfare will receive €250 million.
