Still unsolved, the horse-mutilation mystery has once again raised the issue of animal suffering. Scandals in abattoirs and the videos of abuse on farms broadcast by L214 have done much to raise awareness of the subject. In July 2020, a petition for an RSI (people's referendum) to advance the animal cause was launched, supported by some big names. Two months later, it had collected nearly 670,000 signatures. How can we be effective in the fight against animal suffering? What are the current legal regulations on animal welfare?
