Indicators to assess pig welfare during transport

Preview: In February 2020, EURCAW-Pigs (the European Reference Centre for Pig Welfare) published a study on temperature control and space allowances in relation to the welfare of pigs during transport. This study explains the scientific data underlying these two topics in Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations. The review also proposes solutions to existing problems and mentions indicators that can help to identify welfare problems during official inspections and to assess compliance with EU legislation.
