Document type : webinar organized by the Halle aux Sucres

Authors: Christine Masson, Violaine Calcoen, Marianne Celka, Jocelyne Porcher

Preview: An exploration from Jocelyne Porcher, sociologist and research director at INRAE, Marianne Celka, researcher at the University of Montpellier, and Violaine Calcoen, an organic dairy sheep farmer, of the working relationships between humans and animals.

From the Des Idées à l'œuvre webinar series, part of the "food and transition" season at the Halle aux Sucres in Dunkirk.

Have we now reached a crossroads? The way we frame the world, human beings and animals is undergoing major upheaval. Meat consumption, animal husbandry and more generally our use of the animal world are increasingly under the microscope. According to the FAO, 75% of the world's agricultural land is indeed linked to livestock farming, a sector that also accounts for 14.5% of greenhouse gas emissions.

We question our own ethics, the mistreatment of animals and ask how far our industrial systems bear the responsibility for the malfunctioning of our planet.

Are we to. assume therefore that we are witnessing a food revolution under the combined influence of biotech proposals to replace animal husbandry and the implementation of local food supply systems?

Marianne Celka, Violaine Calcoen and Jocelyne Porcher invite you to engage with the possible futures of our food supply.

Discussion moderated by Christine Masson.
