Preview: Respect for the welfare of farm animals is an important concern for many members of the public and professionals. Studies have already been conducted in France on suckler ewes in sheepfolds and on pasture (Aupiais et al., 2015) and in Europe on ewes in sheepfolds (AWIN project). In their joint "Plan de filière", the sheep industry plans to set up an objective grid to "measure" animal welfare on farms. This project, financed by Interbev (lambs element, MOUBIENE project) and by France Brebis Laitière (dairy ewes element, MOUBIENELait project), aims to co-construct and validate a grid of indicators to assess the well-being of sheep (ewes and lambs from suckling and dairy flocks). Following a literature review, focus group meetings and surveys were carried out with stakeholders in the field to identify the indicators that they consider to be of interest in the assessment of the welfare of ewes and lambs.
