Document type : Video of "Pas si bête", programme broadcast by Arte March 8, 2021 (43 min)

Preview: Flying in the face of preconceptions,  a three-part series reveals the incredible cognitive abilities of farm animals. Belligerent, capricious and wanderers by reputation, goats are perceived as the most uncooperative of all farm animals. However, on closer inspection, they display unexpected sensitivity and intelligence.

For nearly ten thousand years, goats have been living alongside humans, learning to read our facial expressions and to communicate their needs to those who care for them. Organized in matriarchal clans, they are able to recognize their young and herd members thanks to their vocal memory - each goat's bleating being an integral part of its identity. From the Mayenne region to the South-West of England, researchers and farmers explain the little-known qualities of this multi-faceted animal which still has secrets to reveal.
