Preview: Terms such as "veganism" and "antispeciesism" have noticeably appeared in French discussions in recent years. Although until recently there was a general consensus on the subject, animals and the place they occupy in our lives has now become politicised and divisive. In this episode of Poire et cahuètes, we take a closer look at our relationship with animal suffering and how this has evolved in recent times.

To discuss this, we welcome Ariane Nicolas, journalist for Philosophie Magazine and author of the essay L'imposture antispéciste (2020, Desclée de Brouwer).

Who are the vegetarians and vegans in France nowadays? Are they the same people now voting for the Animalist Party, which appeared on the French political scene in 2016? What does the rural community feel about the popularity of these new behaviours?
