Preview: The Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW), an annual international ranking of the world's leading food companies on their commitment to and performance in the area of animal welfare, has just been published (30 March).
For the ninth year running, the BBFAW has analysed the commitments and performance of the world's leading food companies (retailers, restaurants and producers/processors) with regard to farm animal welfare. A total of 150 companies were assessed this year, using information published by the companies themselves.
The BBFAW is increasingly acknowledged and cited as THE yardstick for farm animal welfare standards by the world's leading food companies. It is now a trusted tool for financial investors […]
Thirteen French companies are included in the BBFAW rankings. The Danone group remains the highest-ranked French company this year, and the only one to achieve a level 2 rating. Despite a particularly difficult year for the high-street catering industry, Elior and Sodexo maintained their level 3 scores.
Among the retailers, Auchan has continued to improve this year, rising to a level 3 ranking by updating its policy on animal welfare. Carrefou has also moved up to join Casino and Les Mousquetaires in level 3 as a result of the publication of detailed reporting for France. The other French retailers to be assessed, Les Magasins U and E. Leclerc, keep their level 4 scores.
Last, this year, the Terrena cooperative has gone down one level in the ranking to level 4.
