Preview: What with pets left at the roadside by families off on holiday, dehydration and heatstroke, and owners who are unaware of the rules to follow when travelling with an animal, summer, is a risky time for pets. Julien Denormandie, the French Minister of Agriculture and Food, reminds us that everyone needs to do the right thing and behave responsibly during the summer season.

The roll-out of the French government's ambitious plan for the protection of pets has been ongoing since December 2020 under the France Relance scheme, with an allocated budget of 20 million euros. An awareness campaign has been launched for the summer season, when pet abandonment rises sharply.

And on 23 July, Julien Denormandie was visiting the Chartres-Gasville service station on the A11 motorway with Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, the Transport Minister,  to raise the public profile of the campaign to combat pet abandonment during the summer.
