What is going on in animals' heads? Many of us would like to know the answer to this question... and that includes researchers as well, not least Loïc Bollache, the Dijon naturalist and professor of ecology specialising in the relationships between organisms and their environment. Loïc Bollache enjoys talking about animal intelligence... whether that of mammals, birds or fish. He tells us that, thanks to the work of researchers, we have learned that bumblebees know they can get food by pulling on strings, that wolves are capable of consoling themselves, and so can crows. These recent scientific discoveries are helping us to take our first steps into the private world of animals. Animal intelligence has at last become a hot topic.
