Avis et rapport de l’Anses relatif aux dispositifs de protection des parcours de porcins en plein-air vis-à-vis des risques sanitaires

Document type : Opinion and report from Anses

Authors: "Protection des parcours porcine" working group, of the Anses "Santé et bien-être des animaux" (SABA) specialised expert committee (CES)

Referral topic: On the basis of a bibliographic analysis of all the available literature, the DGAL seeks the opinion of Anses in order to identify alternative measures to fencing, as defined in technical instruction 2019-389, with the requirement that such measures must be effective in preventing the risk represented by the introduction of and contact with wild boar. The physiological levels of maturity of the animals present on the farm should be taken into account.

The effectiveness of the alternative systems proposed by certain professional representatives could be evaluated in relation to the alternative measures identified in the literature. In the event that mobile protection systems prove sufficiently effective to protect the areas occupied by pubescent pigs, specify the minimum technical characteristics of the components of these systems (e.g. for external fencing: minimum height, minimum number of lines, quality of the electric wire, etc.; idem for internal fencing). This analysis could complement the minimum technical specifications for movable fences provided for in Technical Instruction 2019/389 to protect the areas occupied by of non-pubescent or ovariectomised pigs.
