Document type : Order AGRT2134285A issued by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food published in the Journal officiel de la République française
Author: French Ministry of Agriculture and Food
Preview: Affected groups: Breeders and holders of domestic pigs and veterinarians.
Subject: Circumstances under which the castration of male domestic pigs may be carried out for purposes other than therapeutic or diagnostic purposes.
Legal start date: This order enters into force on 1 January 2022.
Notice: The purpose of this order is to make the castration of domestic male pigs for non-therapeutic or non-diagnostic purposes subject to justification, either because of a particular need for castrated male pig meat to be supplied in the context of a quality and origin identification label or because of constraints under which the producer operates. In the latter case, sales contracts or documents governing the transfer of ownership of the animals must comply with the provisions of Articles L 631-24 to L. 631-24-3 of the Rural and Maritime Fishing Code, in particular those requiring production-cost indicators relevant to the type of pigs produced to be taken into account. The production-cost indicators drawn up by the Institut Technique Agricole and disseminated by the interprofession group could be used as a reference.
