Document type: Press release from CIWF France

Author: CIWF France

Preview: The international NGO CIWF is today revealing the results of a large-scale surveyconducted in 16 European pig farms [...]. The organization is calling on citizens to take action and is asking the French Minister of Agriculture to support the changes to the European legislative framework announced by the European Commission by banning intensive cage-farming practices, encouraging regenerative farming practices and daring, finally, to embark on the necessary transition to a dignified and sustainable form of farming - this is both possible and urgent!
A large-scale survey that describes the real facts of a (whole) system [...]
- Sows spend half of their lives in cages so small that they can hardly move, all they can do is stand up or lie down
- Sows are forced to lie down in their own faeces and urine (which they do not do when farming conditions allow it)
- Through the bars of the cages, sows have difficulty interacting with their offspring
- Sows are in such a state of frustration that they adopt abnormal and compulsive behaviors (such as biting the bars...))
report of the investigation and CIWF's recommendations have been sent to the national and European authorities (document in French).
