Preview: For French ruminant farming systems, the effects of climate change are now a stark reality for farmers and their herds. The increase in the frequency, intensity, and duration of heat waves directly affects the animals, forage resources, and living conditions of farm animals, particularly those kept indoors. Among the most visible consequences, episodes of intense heat stress pose a major challenge for these operations. (…) The goal is to provide—primarily to farmers, but also to technicians, advisors, educators, and students—scientific and operational guidelines to support the resilience of ruminant operations in the face of heat stress that is marked by both intensity and duration.
