Preview: Welcome to the second edition of the EURCAW Ruminants & Equines newsletter for 2026.
This edition takes a look at the management of painful procedures in bovines, the latest Welfare Topic published by the Centre. This new resource comprises a thematic factsheet and an animal welfare indicator factsheet, which are designed to support competent authorities and stakeholders in assessing and promoting animal welfare. We also address a recent ‘Question to EURCAW’ (Q2E) regarding accidental lead poisoning in cattle, and provide a summary of the collaborative meeting of the four EURCAWs that took place in Rome in June.
We are delighted to announce the launch of the redesigned EURCAW Ruminants & Equines website. The updated design offers a more dynamic and user-friendly layout, making it easier to navigate the Centre’s resources and access its growing range of outputs. Explore our website to discover the latest tools, publications, training materials and activities.
A new episode of the series Inspector@work, which highlights the work of an official inspector in Ireland, is also featured in this edition. In addition, we  present our new YouTube video about the thematic factsheet on environmental enrichment for ruminants and equines and two new audio versions.
Finally, we share highlights from our recent Care4Dairy training webinar, details of our new initiative to engage with EU competent authorities through regular online briefings, the latest developments regarding the European Commission’s transport initiatives, a survey from the EU Partnership for Animal Health & Welfare, new reports on transportation from the French National Reference Centre for Animal Welfare and news from TransformDairyNet.
