Extrait en français (original) : Le mois d’octobre a été porteur de nombreux défis pour protection animale en Europe. La publication du programme de travail 2026 de la Commission semble confirmer que la réforme de la législation européenne sur le bien-être animal en élevage n’est pas une priorité du mandat actuel. Ensuite, malgré une forte opposition de la société civile (voir notre lettre), le Parlement a adopté un amendement interdisant aux producteurs d’alternatives végétales l’utilisation de certains termes qui seraient désormais réservés aux produits d’origine animale. Enfin, deux ans après la publication de proposition de nouveau règlement par la Commission européenne, la réforme des règles relatives à la protection des animaux pendant le transport demeure au point mort.

This past month has brought significant challenges for animal protection in the EU. The publication of the Commission’s 2026 Work Programme clarified that animal welfare will not be prioritized in the current mandate. The meat-denomination amendment was adopted despite strong civil-society opposition (see our joint letter), and the revision of the Transport Regulation remains stalled. Nevertheless, we look ahead with resolve as we prepare for our conference in Brussels and continue advocating for meaningful legislative advances.
