Preview: EU rules on animal welfare provide among the highest level of protection in the world.
With this initiative, the Commission will perform a 'fitness check' of the current rules. It will assess:
- their effectiveness & relevance in light of developments in scientific knowledge and public opinion
- their consistency with food, environmental and single market rules, and the sustainability goals of the EU's Green Deal and farm to fork strategy
- possibilities for improvement & simplification.
Evaluation and Fitness Check Roadmap. Feedback period : 20 May 2020 - 29 July 2020
Roadmaps are open for feedback for 10 weeks. Feedback will be taken into account for further development and fine tuning of the initiative. The Commission will summarise the input received in a synopsis report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions can't be taken up. Feedback received will be published on this site and therefore must adhere to the feedback rules.
