Document type : video of the IFCE webinar held on September 15, 2020

Author: Patrick Gailloux, Isabelle Burgaud

Abstract : Following on from his webinar on the dangers of hyperflexion, Patrick Galloux, who is an 'Ecuyer du Cadre noir ;and head of the Saumur R&D technical platform, presents his thoughts on the use of nosebands and their tightening.

Having described the different nosebands, their purpose and the rules governing their use in competition, Patrick Galloux goes on to discuss current scientific knowledge on the impacts of excessive tightening on this very sensitive part of the horse. He reminds us of the standard equestrian principles that should be applied when trying to achieve good control.  Dr Isabelle Burgaud sets out veterinary and scientific information on the effects of inappropriate tightening on this very sensitive part of the horse.

Patrick Galloux ends the webinar with a report on the results of a recent study in Saumur that compares mounted training horses with a tight or loose noseband under repeat conditions.

This webinar offers a way to rediscover the underlying principles of how we ride.
