Preview: Following outbreaks in Russia and Kazakhstan this summer, the contagion has recently moved westwards across Europe. An outbreak of avian influenza has been identified in Belgium and has led the authorities to order  "all poultry keepers", including private individuals, to keep their birds under cover, the Belgian Federal Agency for Food Safety (Afssca) announced on Saturday 14 November.
