Preview: After the case in Haute-Corse on Tuesday, it is in a pet shop in the Yvelines that a new outbreak of the disease was discovered. The birds in question were euthanised as a precaution.

A second case of avian influenza has been detected in France, in a pet shop located in Les Yvelines (in the Paris region), three days after the announcement of a first outbreak in Haute-Corse, the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced on Thursday 19 November.

"A fresh outbreak has just been confirmed by ANSES (the National Agency for Health Security) in a pet shop in Les Yvelines," said the Ministry in its statement. Analysis has revealed "the presence of the H5N8 virus, identical to that detected in Haute-Corse, and  not transmissible to humans" and "the epidemiological investigation is continuing in order to identify the links between these two outbreaks and the origin of the infection".
