Preview: The draft law on animal welfare, being debated since yesterday at the French National Assembly represents another step, following the 2015 law recognizing animals as "living beings endowed with feelings", in the campaign by animal protection groups.
But there have been many criticisms that it doesn't go far enough because it excludes such important issues as hunting and intensive farming from its remit.
