Course description: Scientific discoveries over the last few decades on the emotions and intelligence of animals other than ourselves have led us to look at them differently. The research calls into question the divide that has been erected between humans and animals and calls for a redefinition of our interactions with other animals.

Bringing about changes in human-animal relations is anything but obvious. It requires the involvement of those working in the biological sciences alongside those in disciplines from the humanities and social sciences such as anthropology, law and economics. And it requires an understanding of the interplay of the sets of actors involved in these subjects, which can be the source of conflicts and controversies.

Following the success of Session 1, which benefited more than 8,000 learners, we are offering a new version of this MOOC, containing eight new videos on highly topical issues such as zoonoses, One Health, our relationships with dogs around the world, animal empathy, cognitive bias in our relationship with animals, education in animal ethics and the mobilisation of civil society around these issues.
