Preview: Since September, three lorries belonging to a Burgundy company have been travelling from farm to farm, slaughtering cattle directly in their place of life without the need to transport them. A first in France.
It took some time for the realisation to hit Emilie Jeannin that the project she has been working on for over five years had finally come to fruition. On 25 August, the Burgundy Charolais cattle farmer welcomed three strange-looking lorries from Scandinavia into the yard of her farm in the Côte-d'Or to slaughter her first cows.
The operators were ready and the team enthusiastic, but on that day, and in the weeks that followed, the stress was too great for her to enjoy her achievement. It was only two months later, on a morning when the trucks were sitting in a meadow bathed in autumn light, that Emilie Jeannin could say to herself: "This is precisely why I set up this project.
