Preview: Émilie Jeanin's mobile abattoir, the first of its kind in France, closed its doors in Burgundy on February 28, 2023, following the entry into receivership of its parent company, Bœuf Ethique.
The much anticipated 100% mobile abattoir, designed to visit farms and slaughter animals in their own surroundings, had met the expectations of local farms and consumers alike, while the authorities had approved its regulatory compliance.
Although this pioneering project encountered numerous difficulties, the farmer involved was nevertheless a trailblazer: she showed that it is feasible to introduce mobile abattoirs in France, as has long been the case for our European neighbors, given that European legislation permits them.
