Preview: On the morning of Thursday October 10, the Mayenne Chamber of Agriculture's Réagir Unit (response unit) held a meeting of its technical committee at the Maison des Agriculteurs in Changé. Those present discussed the setting up of "Departmental Operational Units" (CDOs) to prevent and combating animal abuse.
Within the next year, the Pays de la Loire Chamber of Agriculture plans to set up a Departmental Operational Unit (CDO) to prevent and combat animal abuse in every Département of the Region. "The purpose of the anti-abuse CDOs is to improve the prevention of livestock abuse and help to combat mistreatment for all livestock and companion animals" explains Nelly Loupy, Vice-President of the Mayenne Chamber of Agriculture, which runs Réagir, the Chamber's unit for combating poor welfare in agriculture. Setting up a CDO is nothing new for this Département: seven years ago, the Board of the Chambre d'Agriculture de la Mayenne decided that the Mayenne Chamber would run a trial livestock protection unit.
