Our latest publication is a white paper advocating for enhanced protection of pigs under European legislation through a ban on cage rearing. Titled “Reforming Pig Welfare in the European Union: A Call for a Cage-Free Future,” this document aims to inform the Commission’s ongoing reform of European legislation on animal welfare by presenting the arguments in favor of a ban on these confinement systems. Written by Gabriela Kubíková, Artūrs Kaņepājs, Griffin Carpenter, and Marietheres Reinke, this white paper assesses the potential impacts—both on animal welfare and economically—of banning sow stalls and farrowing crates in pig farming, and formulates policy recommendations based on these findings.
