Our latest publication is a White Paper advocating for stronger protections for pigs under EU law through a prohibition on caged farming. “Reforming Pig Welfare in the European Union: The Case for a Cage-Free Future” aims to inform the Commission’s ongoing reform of EU animal welfare legislation by presenting the case for a ban on these confinement systems. Authored by Gabriela Kubíková, Artūrs Kaņepājs, Griffin Carpenter, and Marietheres Reinke, the White Paper assesses the potential animal welfare and economic impacts of prohibiting sow stalls and farrowing crates in pig farming and sets out policy recommendations based on these findings.
