Article setting out a framework for the assessment of the social benefits of animal-related policies in terms of both animal and human welfare. The framework is then used to evaluate 20 policy proposals concerning animals which, although strongly supported by the French public, prove to have widely varying impacts on animal welfare. It reveals that willingness to pay is a poor indicator of the actual impact of these policies on animal welfare.

Scientific article comparing the willingness to pay higher prices for more sustainable pork among consumers in Shanghai and 3 European countries. In Western countries, animal welfare is the main reason for paying more, while in China it is food safety. CGAAER report on the conditions required to reconcile the positions of the French public and livestock farming. The CGAAER considers that the controversy surrounding livestock farming can only be resolved after a discussion between all stakeholders to develop shared objectives for future livestock farming. This will call for a multidisciplinary scientific committee to clarify the terms of the debate, and a dialogue between the different sectors to develop common messages.

Scientific article using modelling to assess production losses due to heat stress in two different greenhouse gas emission scenarios. Depending on emission levels, economic losses vary between 9.8% and 3 to 7% of the value of beef and milk production worldwide in 2005. These results underline the importance of putting adaptation measures place in to combat heat stress if we are to ensure global food security.
