The illegal trade in pets is too widespread in Europe. To protect animals, MEPs want to increase enforcement measures and penalties.

Summary: To bring a halt to the illegal trade in pets, MEPs have called for an EU-wide action plan. In a Resolution adopted by the Environment and Public Health Committee on 21 January, they call for tougher penalties and the mandatory identification and registration of dogs and cats.
