Document type: Announcement of a public consultation by the European Commission
Preview: In 2012, the Commission adopted the EU strategy for the protection and welfare of animals 2012-2015, which defined a number of priorities and actions aimed at improving the welfare of animals. They were completed in 2018.
In 2019, following a recommendation from the European Court of Auditors, the Commission launched an evaluation of the EU Animal Welfare Strategy. This evaluation aims to assess the extent to which the Strategy delivered against its objectives and the extent to which those are relevant and coherent today. The evaluation will inform any future EU initiatives on animal welfare.
The public consultation launched in the context of the evaluation aims to: • collect the views of individuals and organisations who would not be approached through other consultation means in the course of the study to the support the evaluation process; • provide all interested parties with the opportunity to share opinions and information on the matters to be addressed in this evaluation.
