1 - BEEP welfare in pig farming tool: This tool from the "Le Porc Français" toolkit was designed in consultation with farmers and scientists and was tested by farmers in all types of system, both conventional and organic. 16 indicators cover the 4 dimensions of well-being: housing quality, good health, feeding and watering, and behaviours. BEEP mainly uses direct observation to measure the indicators, thus guaranteeing a true assessment of the animals' welfare. Assessment begins from weaning, when rearing starts, with assessments for individual average performance and comparison with national reference values.
