Preview: Pig farms need to respond to consumer and public concerns over animal welfare, use of antibiotics and environmental protection. As elements of corporate social responsibility (RSE) these issues ultimately impact every link in the pork production chain, right up to the sale of pork products to the public.

For a number of years now, IFIP has been proactive in offering tools to help meet these public expectations while taking into account the need for farms to remain competitive. Such applications are often free and easy to use on a computer or smartphone. Their design is co-constructed with all partners and is subjected to on-farm trials […]

1 - BEEP welfare in pig farming tool: This tool from the "Le Porc Français" toolkit was designed in consultation with farmers and scientists and was tested by farmers in all types of system, both conventional and organic. 16 indicators cover the 4 dimensions of well-being: housing quality, good health, feeding and watering, and behaviours. BEEP mainly uses direct observation to measure the indicators, thus guaranteeing a true assessment of the animals' welfare. Assessment begins from weaning, when rearing starts, with assessments for individual average performance and comparison with national reference values.
