Barbara Pompili announced on Tuesday a series of measures on the "welfare of captive wildlife", including an end to the breeding of American mink for their fur.
A victory for animal rights activists. The showing of wild animals in travelling circuses will be "gradually" banned in France, as well as the reproduction and introduction of new killer whales and dolphins in the country's three dolphinariums, the Minister for Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, announced on Tuesday 29 September. She did not give a precise timetable for the implementation of the bans.
The Minister, who presented a raft of measures on the "welfare of captive wildlife", also announced that American mink would no longer be bred for fur, noting that "we have now seen a shift in public attitudes towards wild animals".
