Preview: As part of the mandatory training of animal welfare advisors, a distance learning module has been available since September 1st.
As stipulated by an Order of December 16, 2021, all professional pig and poultry farms must have designated an animal welfare advisor from January 1. Whether the advisor is a farmer or an employee, they  must follow a mandatory training course on pig and poultry farming.
The newly released distance learning module is one component of this course. Financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, it  provides a "reminder of the fundamentals of animal welfare founded on the most recent scientific studies and of the five freedoms, which are the main guiding principles of good treatment," comments the Ministry of Agriculture's press release dated September 5.
Advisors can follow the entire module remotely on https://formation-referent-bien-etre-animal.fr.
The second component of this course consists of a "certified" training course of at least seven hours in length, delivered by Vivea (for farm managers) or Ocapiat (for employees). There is a possibility of equivalence for animal welfare training courses undertaken since 2018 and for certain agricultural qualifications.
Documents (in French) on the training course for animal welfare advisors are available here.
