This is a comprehensive summary of the FVE Animal Welfare strategy adopted in November 2021.
The FVE Animal Welfare Strategy details FVE's vision of the European veterinary profession in animal welfare, which is a key part of the FVE's Strategic Plan.
"Animal welfare science is an evolving social concern. There is a growing expectation that the veterinary profession will reflect the current scientific understanding of animals' needs, preferences and pleasures across veterinary policies. Animal welfare is also wide, with many issues and species to focus on. This is why as FVE we made an Animal Welfare Strategy"
FVE President Rens van Dobbenburgh says.
Sean Wensley, Chair of the FVE Animal Welfare Working Group adds: "The FVE Working Group recognises the critical need to continue advancing veterinary animal welfare leadership, to promote the interests of sentient animals across Europe and respond to the high societal and political interest in animal welfare as a social issue. I am very grateful to my colleagues, the FVE Board and Sections, and the many consultees from across FVE's member counties, whose work has led to a strategy that will inspire and support further veterinary action on securing a good life and humane death for animals in Europe and beyond."
