Preview: We [Romain Espinosa, researcher at the CNRS and 16 students at Sciences Po Nancy] have studied 200 measures to improve animal welfare and present our results for 20 selected measures.
These measures enjoy a strong consensus, can be easily implemented, and the implementation costs are low in light of what French consumers are willing to pay.

...] Beyond the current changes in individual behaviours, the State has a key role to play in protecting the most vulnerable animals: by facilitating and supporting the transition to activities that show greater respect to animals; by ensuring compliance with the regulations in force; by providing consumers with more information on the origin of products; and by banning the cruellest practices.

Through [our] citizen's appeal, we call on elected officials from all parties to reach out across the usual political divides, and on public authorities to act to implement these consensual and financially sustainable solutions in favour of animals. We want public debate to focus on what really matters: animal welfare.
