Preview The Couvoir Hy-Line France hatchery has been making use of hyperspectral measurement technology to determine the sex of embryos in the egg since early 2020 for the Hy-Line, Lohmann and H&N strains.

Developed by the German manufacturer AAT, this innovative hyperspectral measurement technology designed to determine an embryo's sex while in the egg is now ready for large-scale practical trials on brown laying hens in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and other European countries. The device, which marks a major breakthrough in hyperspectral measurement technology, has been named " Cheggy ". "After years of intensive research and development, this technology, which is based on the detection of down colouring, is the first process to be suitable for the large volumes involved in modern hatcheries ", says Jörg Hurlin, Managing Director of AAT.
